    This does show the importance of state and local taxes with communities varying over a factor of two in the tax load. Since that could mean the difference between 6% and 12% of my income, it is an important consideration.

    It could use some simple comparison tables for the various types of taxes along with some maps showing the approximate location of the communities.

    It is missing many of the other factors that need to be considered before deciding where to live such as climate, crime, and housing cost.

    I love the data and insight! Great tool if you want to investigate a variety of potential locations. I use it along side of my new copy of “Cities Ranked & Rated”. Next to actually living there, it may be the best source of information and insight. Try their magazine, “Retire Here”, for a regular infusion of inspiration and real estate ads.

    Helped me understand how a state may have low taxes.

    Yet there may many local taxes,for cities within that state.

    This book really opened my eyes to how drastically different each state is regarding taxes in all areas. I always new that my state had a high tax rate on everything, but this book confirmed that I live in a “tax hell”! I plan to leave my state at first opportunity and definitely will not retire here.
