Stock options and payment in stock and other gimmicks give a huge personal stake in the value of the stock or dividend payouts and is a huge conflict of interest. I think they should get paid by the performance of the company, measured over long periods of time and should not be connected to the value of the stock or the dividend (if it has a dividend).
